Glossary Page 3 Imbedded Particulate: Solid particles exist in most stains. These particles must be lifted to get at the underlying stain. Examples include: dirt, ink pigment, and brake dust. Waterless hand cleaner: Almost 100% of this type hand cleaner is formulated from mineral spirits which is processed to form a gel. They were designed for use when water is not available. They jiggle like “Jello” and tend to over-dry you skin. In hot weather, the mineral spirits will separate out into a goopy mess. Do not be fooled by waterless hand cleaners claiming to be petroleum solvent free. A few waterless hand cleaners use D-Limonene as their solvent base. D-Limonene: A turpentine-like solvent derived from orange peels. This solvent has a low flashpoint around 115 degrees F, similar to mineral spirits. Flashpoint: The lowest temperature at which a flammable liquid gives off sufficient vapor to ignite. <Glossary 1> <Glossary 2> <Glossary 3> |
